Why is my fabric pilling?

Pilling is a characteristic of many upholstery fabrics. This is a result of excess fiber coming off the surface of the material. The release of excess fiber results in small “balls” or “pills” forming on the surface of the upholstery. This condition is NOT warranted by the fabric mills as it is NOT considered a defect, but simply the fiber on each individual strand of thread used to weave the material working through the weave itself. The occurrence is very similar to the “fuzzing” experienced with new carpeting or the “pilling” of a new sweater.

The best treatment while the fabric is pilling is to simply shave the cover with a battery-operated furniture or sweater shaver (available at most retail stores), and then thoroughly vacuuming to remove the loose fibers. This will remove the pills and restore the look to the fabric surface. This type of maintenance may need to be done three or four times until the pilling on the surface begins to diminish and ultimately stops completely.

Periodic maintenance (vacuuming, cleaning, flipping and rotating cushions for even wear) is recommended.

Can I machine wash my slipcovers and/or casing covers?

No; our fabrics are not machine washable. Check with your retailer for your specific fabric’s cleaning code and recommended cleaning instructions.

What kind of wood is used for your products?

Upholstery:
Frame construction is a combination of selected kiln-dried hardwood components in combination with 7ply engineered frames. Stress joints are double-doweled, glued, and screwed.

Accent, Wicker/Rattan, Case goods:
Materials vary by style. Materials used are wicker, rattan, hardwood and may be in combination on some pieces.

What is the warranty of your products?

Fabric carries a 1-year warranty. Wicker Rattan frames carry a 2-year warranty. Casegoods (bedroom, dining) carry a 1-year warranty. Cushions and mechanisms have varying warranties. Contact your retailer/designer with specific style #’s for more information.
