CLEANABILITY STANDARDS FOR UPHOLSTERY FABRICS

The nation’s leading textile mills in association with the National Association of Furniture Manufacturers (NFM) and the National Retail Furniture Association (NRFA) have developed recommendations for cleaning today’s upholstery fabrics. Braxton Culler is one of the many manufacturers of upholstery furniture that has adopted this program, which suggests individual cleaning methods for the various fabrics used in our line. The fabric you have selected has been grouped into one of the following categories and the identifying letter has been printed on all of our fabric samples.

While the cleaning methods offer no guarantees, we believe these recommendations are the best and safest for maintaining the beauty of our upholstery products. We strongly suggest you pretest a small, inconspicuous area before proceeding with any cleaning method. Some pile fabrics may require brushing with a non-metallic, stiff bristle brush to restore appearance after spot cleaning.

Cleaning Code “W”

Spot clean only with a mild water-based shampoo or foam upholstery cleaner and allow to air dry. Do not use solvents to spot clean as they may be harmful to the color and life of the fabric. Cushion covers should not be removed and laundered. To prevent overall soiling, frequent vacuuming or light brushing to remove dust and grime is recommended. Use a professional furniture cleaning service when an overall soiled condition has been reached.

Cleaning Code “S”

Spot clean only using a mild water-free solvent or dry-cleaning product. Do not saturate. Avoid any product containing carbon tetrachloride which is highly toxic. CAUTION: Use of water based or detergent-based solvent cleaners may cause excessive shrinking and water stains may become permanent. Cushion covers should not be removed and dry-cleaned. To prevent overall soiling, frequent vacuuming or light brushing to remove dust and grime is recommended. Use a professional furniture cleaning service when an overall soiled condition has been reached.
